This Year’s ‘Anyone but Lebron’ MVP Goes to….

This NBA season was another year of “Who but Lebron can win MVP?”

Once again, Lebron was the best player in the world.

He even dragged a horrendous Cavs team to the NBA Finals.  For the King, that was his 8th Finals in a row, which is crazy in today’s NBA.  This year’s benefactor of the “we’r tired of Lebron winning” MVP award went to James Harden.  The votes came in very lopsided and Harden won by a landslide.  But, not only did Lebron have a better season, when comparing numbers (see below), he once again carried his terrible team to the NBA Finals.  If it wasn’t for his clown teammates like George Hill missing a foul shot and idiot JR Smith not knowing the score, that Finals would have felt a lot different.

Golden State is currently a legit dynasty in the League, especially after KD mushed his way onto an already championship winning team.  So Lebron wasn’t really going to win another Finals, but at least he showed up.

Let’s compare some stats:

One of the more impressive numbers shown up there is that Lebron played all 82 games this season.  At the age of 33 Lebron willed his way into playing every game this season.  With this awful supporting cast, you could see Lebron almost giving up on these bums halfway through the year.  Back in the day playing every game was the norm.  Today this seems like it never happens.  Guys today complaining about travel schedules, back-to-backs, even Popovich started the “let’s rest guys before playoffs” movement.  Despite all that Bron was out to prove a point this year in what may have been his best statistical year so far.

When you look at those numbers side by side, I struggle to even make an argument for Harden at all?  You want to look at saber-metrics to support Harden’s case? That’s fine, but it’s not for me.  We’r talking Points: Lebron, Rebs: Bron, Assists: Lebron, FG %: Bron, Games played: LEBRON.  So what did Harden actually do better then Lebron this year?  Play defense? haha

Of course Lebron also might be the best defender in the league when he wants to be.  The guy does it all and Hardens lack of defense is embarrassing at times.

Just like MJ, the NBA is getting tired of Lebron dominating the league year in and year out.  The loser voters get tired of making the easy decision, which is checking off Lebron’s name on the ballot every year for MVP.  If the Cavs don’t have Lebron, they are a lottery team.  If Houston doesn’t have Harden, they most likely still make the playoffs, in the West.

I didn’t mind when Westbrook won the MVP averaging a triple-double for the year.  That’s impressive.  But next year how about we make the easy decision and just give another MVP back to the King, huh?

  1. Could not agree more with EVERY point you made CK. Those numbers speak for themselves, but more importantly was playing every game with those other bums on that team.
Look, when LeBron pulled his Miami move and all the hoopla that went with it, I was not a fan, BUT his willingness to bring it every night, and his overall game make him the best, I’d take him over Jordan.
How is he not the MVP ??
